Softball Recap: Columbian Gets the Win

Columbian took a 18-run loss the last time they faced off against Norwalk, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tornadoes sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Truckers on Wednesday. For the Tornadoes, this counts as revenge for the 18-0 victory the Truckers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Camryn Haman was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Haman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Olyvia Steinmetz, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Corinne Plott was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

Columbian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Norwalk, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Columbian will be playing in front of their home fans against Clyde at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Fliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Tornadoes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Norwalk, they will head out to face off against Perkins at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Truckers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
