Southwestern is 4-0 against the Deaf Hoosiers since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Southwestern Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indiana School for the Deaf Deaf Hoosiers at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Thursday, Southwestern took a serious blow against the Jets, falling 64-37. While losing is never fun, Southwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 442nd, while the Jets are ranked 155th).
Meanwhile, Indiana School for the Deaf struggled with assists on Thursday (the Titans had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Indiana School for the Deaf was outmatched by the Titans on the road and fell 69-39. Indiana School for the Deaf was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-18.
Despite the defeat, Indiana School for the Deaf got a solid performance out of Dylan Puent, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That was a full 46.2% of Indiana School for the Deaf's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Saaty, who scored 13 points.
Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Indiana School for the Deaf, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4.
Everything came up roses for Southwestern against the Deaf Hoosiers in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 67-33 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Indiana School for the Deaf's Wascher Tyler, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
