Pocahontas County is 6-0 against Webster County since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Pocahontas County Warriors have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Webster County Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Friday, Pocahontas County suffered a tough 56-31 loss at the hands of Greenbrier West. Pocahontas County has struggled against Greenbrier West recently, as their game last Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Pocahontas County had strong showings from Olivia Vandevender, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Riley Pollack, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vandevender has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Webster County's 19-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. The game between Webster County and Doddridge County wasn't particularly close, with Webster County falling 58-43. While losing is never fun, Webster County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Doddridge County is ranked 19th).
Pocahontas County now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Webster County, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-3.
Pocahontas County strolled past Webster County in their previous meeting back in February of 2020 by a score of 48-33. Will Pocahontas County repeat their success, or does Webster County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
