2A Tri-Peaks recap October 29, 2013
Florence added to the longest winning streak in 2A Tri-Peaks this week by beating Trinidad, 45-8. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Huskies.
The Miners lost to Florence 45-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
St. Mary's's dynamic duo of Hayden Smith and Patrick Telck proved tough for Dolores Huerta Prep to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 150 yards and 4 touchdowns and Telck had 70 yards receiving. Connor Rosenoff helped St. Mary's' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 47 yards.
Julian Gallegos was a force in the backfield as the Scorpions lost to the Pirates.
Javier Becerra was a key player and the best on defense this week as Lamar topped La Junta. The 5-foot-0 senior nabbed 1 interception and grabbed 2 sacks.
He was 6-10 with 1 interception.
Gallegos provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Dolores Huerta Prep fell to St. Mary's. Gallegos' key target this week was Jordan Rhodes, who caught 2 passes for 37 yards.
Alamosa's Marco Garcia and Bailey Garcia led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Garcia has thrown for 1,142 yards this season, while Garcia has 33 catches for 667 yards. Zach Hoxie from Jeremy Nix's team leads the league in rushing with 989 yards.
The Huskies' Hoxie is a mere 11 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Hoxie has rushed for 989 yards on 109 carries so far this year.
Florence made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,513 from 4,891. The advance stemmed from a 45-8 victory over Trinidad last week.
