Baseball Recap: Lowry Comes Up Short

Lowry had lost five straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 10-13 to make it six. They came up short against the Churchill County Greenwave, falling 14-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Greenwave this season, with their most recent defeat being a 19-14 loss on Saturday.

Erick Valencia was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. He has become a key player for Lowry: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise.

As for Churchill County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Churchill County's side, they got a great performance from Luis Lopez-Pinuelas as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Lopez-Pinuelas has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evan Giovanetti was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Carnahan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Coming up, Lowry will head out to take on Dayton at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dust Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.68 runs per game on average), something the Buckaroos will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Churchill County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Spring Creek at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Spartans have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
