Softball Recap: Hart Has No Trouble Against Hesperia

Hart had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Hesperia on Tuesday. The Pirates blew past the Panthers 20-2. That looming 20-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pirates yet this season.

Reese Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kelsey Copenhaver was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Maryn Klotz was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Hart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hart's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Hesperia, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Hart will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair will be back at it again later today.
