The Leadership Academy Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Piedmont Classical Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leadership Academy will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 14 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact Leadership Academy proved on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-30 victory over Cornerstone Charter. Given Leadership Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Cornerstone Charter is ranked 584th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Addy Guldberg, who scored 14 points along with 8 steals and 6 rebounds. Guldberg is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Brooke Swigert was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 6 steals.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Piedmont Classical had to settle for a 55-53 defeat against Bethany on Friday. Piedmont Classical has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Piedmont Classical saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 19 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists, was perhaps the best of all. Goins scored a full 35.8% of Piedmont Classical's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamia Carter, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
Leadership Academy's win lifted them to 4-0 while Cornerstone Charter's loss dropped them down to 0-8.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Leadership Academy haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Piedmont Classical, though, as they've been averaging 27.7 per game. Given Leadership Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Piedmont Classical will need to find a way to close that gap.
