Platte Valley hasn't had much luck against Sterling recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Broncos will take on the Tigers at 4:00 p.m.
On Monday, Platte Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Brush and fell 7-6.
Joseph Hill was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mason Hunt, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Sterling earned a 12-8 win over Valley on Thursday.
Sterling let Blake Kloberdanz and Dayten DiOrio run wild. Kloberdanz went 3-for-4 with six RBI and two doubles, while DiOrio went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Sterling is 6-1 when DiOrio posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Caleb Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Platte Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Sterling, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Platte Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sterling struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Platte Valley came up short against Sterling in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, falling 10-5. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
