Fairfield dropped their record down to 6-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 17-11 to the Armijo Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-6 back in March.
Kaya Lanzon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Claudia Lucero was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
As for Armijo, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.8 runs over those games.
On Armijo's side, Brooklyn Talbot made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Talbot has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-6. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.1 hits per game.
In other batting news, Tiana Alcorn was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Gillis, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Fairfield is set to challenge their familiar foe Foothill at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Armijo will take on rival Johnson at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Royals are on a five-game streak of home wins, the Warriors a six-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
