The Santa Fe Catholic Hawks and the Bell Creek Academy Panthers squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to the Panthers. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Santa Fe Catholic still got an impressive performance from Danilo Stankovic, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Hudson Dykhuizen, who scored 13 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bell Creek Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jermal Jones, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Caleb Sanders was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Santa Fe Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 23-5. As for Bell Creek Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-11.
Santa Fe Catholic will face off against King's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Santa Fe Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 19 contests. Bell Creek Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Cardinal Newman at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Cardinal Newman will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Bell Creek Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
