The Green Valley Gators will head out to challenge the Basic Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Green Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Green Valley took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Centennial, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Green Valley had just enough and edged out Centennial 4-3 on Thursday.
Green Valley's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lauryn Galvin, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another was Emery Gonzalez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Basic sidestepped Southeast Career Tech for an 8-6 win. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Roadrunners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Melanie Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Samantha Marquez, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Aubrey Kilar also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Basic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Basic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Green Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Green Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .419. However, it's not like Basic struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Green Valley took their win against Basic in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 16-6. Does Green Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Basic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
