The Ravenscroft Ravens will be taking part in a tournament against the Rocky Mount Gryphons at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ravenscroft is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season.
Ravenscroft took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Vance County as they made off with a 74-50 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Ravens' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Vipers are ranked 544th).
Ravenscroft relied on the efforts of Aayan Nathani, who went 6-for-10 en route to 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Bray Hubbard, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Nathani also put up a block, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Les Carroll, who posted six points along with eight boards and seven assists.
Ravenscroft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mount was not able to break out of their rough patch last Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Washington, falling 75-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Gryphons have suffered since February 10th.
Despite the defeat, Rocky Mount saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Semaj Parker dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds. Parker is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Brelyn Moses was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.
Rocky Mount's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Ravenscroft, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Ravenscroft has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mount struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
