Basketball Recap: Naydia Shaw Key Part of a Team Effort in Blazers Win

Kingstree hadn't done well against East Clarendon recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Kingstree Blazers walked away with a 45-38 win over the East Clarendon Wolverines. For the Blazers, this counts as revenge for the 45-25 victory the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2020.

Kingstree's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naydia Shaw led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Shaw is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamarie McCrea, who posted nine points and seven steals.

Kingstree smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Clarendon only pulled down three offensive rebounds.

Cherish Cochran and Kierstin Woods certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Cochran earned 21 points, while Woods had seven points. That was a full 55.3% of East Clarendon's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Kingstree is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for East Clarendon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kingstree will head out to face off against Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kingstree is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season. As for East Clarendon, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mullins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. East Clarendon is facing Mullins at the right time seeing as Mullins is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
