Shadow Ridge is 7-1 against Bishop Gorman since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the Gaels at 4:00 p.m. Shadow Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Shadow Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Centennial, who was ranked 17th at the time (Shadow Ridge was ranked fifth). The Mustangs came up short against the Bulldogs on Monday, falling 12-6. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Devaeh Crawford was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Rosely Hensley-Mokiao, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Bishop Gorman hadn't done well against Liberty recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Gaels blew past the Patriots 12-6. The Gaels not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 11th (when they won 15-0).
Makamae Eugenio made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Eugenio was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gwen Thewes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Rodriguez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Bishop Gorman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only posted an OBP of .290.
The victory made it two in a row for Bishop Gorman and bumps their season record up to 10-13-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Shadow Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shadow Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. However, it's not like Bishop Gorman struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Shadow Ridge's way against Bishop Gorman in their previous matchup back in March, as Shadow Ridge made off with a 17-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
