The Evadale Rebels won the last time they faced the Kelly Catholic Bulldogs, and things went their way on Saturday too. Evadale came out on top against Kelly Catholic by a score of 58-47. Given Evadale's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while Kelly Catholic is ranked 1058th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Warren Brewer, who scored 17 points along with 9 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Evadale's points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Buford, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
Defeat or not, Kelly Catholic got some senior leadership from Jacob Hernandez who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals and Gates Jenkins who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Munro Nichols, who scored 7 points.
Evadale has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 5-2 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Kelly Catholic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evadale will play host again and welcome East Chambers, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. East Chambers is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. As for Kelly Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Bend Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
