Carroll and Homestead are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Chargers will head out on the road to square off against the Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
While Carroll's win against Wawasee wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chargers won by a run and slipped past the Warriors 10-9. The victory was nothing new for the Chargers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Izzy Rapson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kaelyn Kinsey was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Homestead unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 11-8 to Mississinewa. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this contest were averaging 3.63 runs allowed.
Maddy Rodgers made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Jordan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Carroll pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Homestead, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carroll hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Homestead struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carroll skirted past Homestead 6-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
