The Northwest Mohawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Westfall Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northwest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
While Northwest's win against South Webster wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mohawks skirted past the Jeeps 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mohawks have posted since May 20, 2025.
Annika Carpenter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Northwest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Copp, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Westfall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 13-6 to Hillsboro.
Northwest is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Westfall, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Westfall's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northwest has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Westfall, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Northwest's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northwest came out on top in a nail-biter against Westfall in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Mohawks repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
