It was a good run, but The Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were beaten by Williamstown 65-21. Wheeling Central Catholic was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Williamstown apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2020.
When it comes to explaining why Wheeling Central Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Braden Mcwreath. Despite the final result, he rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Mcwreath was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards.
It was another big night for Maxwell Molessa, who rushed for 241 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 46 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Landon Dodrill was in the mix as well, providing Williamstown with two touchdowns.
Wheeling Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Williamstown, their victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Wheeling Central Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Williamstown will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Doddridge County at 1:30 p.m.
