Eastwood is 10-0 against Socorro since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Eastwood Troopers will head out on the road to challenge the Socorro Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Eastwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
Eastwood can now show off 14 landslide victories after their most recent matchup. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Coronado 64-16 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-8.
Eastwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Amaya Williams out in front who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Olivia Morales was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Socorro's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 14th straight loss. They were outmatched by Pebble Hills on the road and fell 71-41. While losing is never fun, Socorro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 963rd, while Pebble Hills is ranked 109th).
Eastwood has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for Socorro, they dropped their record down to 6-21 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Eastwood against Socorro in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 59-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastwood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
