MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - the Falcons scored 28 points in the second quarter to secure a big 42-7 victory over West Haven (Conn.) on Saturday.
Xavier scored on a
Tim Boyle touchdown pass to
Kris Luster, a touchdown pass by Boyle to
Joe Carbone, a Boyle touchdown pass to
DeAngelo Berry and a Berry touchdown run in the quarter.
XHS was up 35-0 at the half after taking the lead on a Berry touchdown run in the first quarter.
Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 35.
With the win the Middletown school extended its winning streak to five games. The Falcons defeated the Gaels 59-17 last week.
Boyle stood out for Xavier in the win. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Tayvon Gibbs made a difference for the Blue Devils. The sophomore tight end kicked one extra point.
West Haven's lone touchdown came on a 60-yard run in the third quarter.
Coming into the game XHS had allowed 18.0 points per game this year. The Falcons held firm on the defensive front, and kept WH well below the 36.0 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Xavier came away with a 47-22 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for West Haven, which notched a 47-12 victory over Wilbur Cross in its previous outing.
Xavier (9-1) will play a non-conference game against Middletown next week, while West Haven (7-3) will take on Fairfield Prep also in a non-conference game.
