Los Lunas hasn't had much luck against Carlsbad recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Los Lunas will square off against Carlsbad at 8:00 a.m. Los Lunas is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Los Lunas barely beat Bernalillo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Los Lunas was the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Bernalillo on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ashley Baca was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsie DeGraaf, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Aaliyah Vigil was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad faced Atrisco Heritage Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Carlsbad narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Atrisco Heritage Academy 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cavemen/Cavegirls.
Like Los Lunas, Carlsbad also got a great game from a two-way player: Kalion Fuentes. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Fuentes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrey Hernandez was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Los Lunas' victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Carlsbad, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Los Lunas might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Carlsbad in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Los Lunas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
