Fort Gibson has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Locust Grove Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Fort Gibson beat Wagoner 49-36. Given Fort Gibson's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Wagoner is ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Locust Grove had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Catoosa 62-15 on the road. Locust Grove has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 27 points or more this season.
Fort Gibson has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Locust Grove, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3.
Fort Gibson came out on top in a nail-biter against Locust Grove in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, sneaking past 51-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fort Gibson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
