With three Top 25 teams in the field, the 2018 Polynesian Bowl Classic looks to be the biggest showcase in high school football. Eight of the 10 teams for the September event were announced Tuesday and the two-day event features three teams from last season's Xcellent 25, including,
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.),
Chandler (Ariz.), and
Bingham (South Jordan, Utah).
The Ascenders take on host
Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) on Friday, Sept. 7, with the other four games scheduled for Sept. 8. Liberty will be IMG's first Nevada opponent and the Ascenders enter the 2018 season riding a 38-game winning streak. Liberty has gone 34-6 over the last three seasons with all six losses coming against Top 25 opponents.
Three of Saturday's games feature Chandler vs.
Faith Lutheran (Las Vegas),
Farrington (Honolulu) vs.
Carson (Calif.) and Bingham vs.
Mountain Pointe (Phoenix). The final game of the series hasn't been announced.
All five games will be played at Liberty High School.
