Basketball Recap: Concordia Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Emersyn Spurgeon and Charis Hughes

After flying high against Lincoln Lutheran last Thursday, Concordia came back down to earth. The Concordia Mustangs took a hard 51-37 fall against the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Cavaliers are ranked 50th).

Concordia's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Charis Hughes, who posted ten points and seven rebounds, and Emersyn Spurgeon, who had five points. Hughes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Concordia has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Bishop Neumann, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Concordia wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-41 defeat against Duchesne on the 18th. As for Bishop Neumann, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-24 victory against Lincoln Lutheran on the 24th.
