Basketball Recap: Sophie Mitchell Key Part of a Team Effort in Broncos Win

There's no place like home for Dayton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 25-23 win over the Pasadena Eagles on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Broncos: when they faced off against the Eagles back in January, they had to take a 41-27 loss.

Dayton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophie Mitchell, who posted six points along with seven boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Mitchell a new career-high in rebounds. Jamie Maddy was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Dayton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Pasadena saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Melanie Negrete earned eight points.

With the win, Dayton broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-21. As for Pasadena, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-20.

Dayton has already played their next contest, a 37-19 loss against Crosby on the 4th. As for Pasadena, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 39-34 defeat against Porter on the 4th.
