Germantown is 8-0 against Starkville since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The pair will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Germantown posted their biggest win since November 9, 2023 on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Murrah 65-26 on the road. Given Germantown's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Murrah is ranked 190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Germantown can attribute much of their success to Raegan Jordan, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Alana Rouser, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rouser is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Bella Williams was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Starkville entered their tilt with Callaway with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Starkville put the hurt on Callaway with a sharp 62-36 victory last Saturday. With Starkville ahead 41-14 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Starkville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zariyah Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Edwards hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Gay, who scored 20 points along with two blocks.
Germantown has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Starkville, their win bumped their record up to 17-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Germantown hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.4 points per game. It's a different story for Starkville, though, as they've been averaging only 57.2 points per game. The only thing between Germantown and another offensive beatdown is Starkville. Will they be able to keep them contained?
