Whitney and Roseville are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Whitney Wildcats will face off against the Roseville Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Whitney sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Woodcreek. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Taylor Cordell looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Rabe, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Roseville never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Lincoln on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 18-2 margin over the Fighting Zebras. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Fighting Zebras: they've now won three in a row.
Alyssa MacFarlane made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting no hits from her three at bats.
In other batting news, McKenna Patterson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Kayla Robles was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Whitney pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Roseville, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Whitney beat Roseville 8-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will Whitney repeat their success, or does Roseville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
