Basketball Game Preview: Akron Rams vs. Sedgwick County Cougars

The Akron Rams will face off against the Sedgwick County Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Akron sitting on three straight victories and Sedgwick County on five.

Akron will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Holyoke, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Everything went Akron's way against Holyoke on Friday as Akron made off with a 55-33 win. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Dragons are ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Akron's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mikenna Weers, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points and four steals. Weers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kashlee Randel, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sedgwick County). They blew past Perkins County 63-18 on Thursday. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 25 points or more this season.

Sedgwick County is also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.4 points per game. As for Akron, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
