ALAMOGORDO, N.M. -
Gadsden (Anthony, N.M.) jumped out to an early lead against
Alamogordo (N.M.) and never looked back on the way to a 27-7 victory on Saturday.
The Panthers put up 14 points in the opening quarter. Gadsden scored on a
Ramon Martinez touchdown run and a touchdown pass by
Steven Herrera to
Sergio Ramos.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Martinez in the first quarter, GHS led 21-7 at the half.
The Anthony school expanded its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. The Panthers' lone score in the quarter came on a
Frank Jauregui touchdown run.
Alamogordo's only touchdown came on a 9-yard pass from
Julian Segura to
Andrew Yates in the second quarter.
Gadsden came in allowing an average of 29.8 points per game this season.
A 14-12 Gadsden victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss was the fourth in a row for the Tigers.
In a 5A District 3 game next week Alamogordo (1-7) takes on Mayfield, and Gadsden (4-5) will go up against Las Cruces also in a 5A District 3 game.
