Given Pipestone's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Springfield is ranked 254th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Springfield had strong showings from Ben Potter, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Brayden Sturm, who scored 19 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Potter pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aiden Moriarty, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Pipestone's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Springfield, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-4.
Pipestone won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Montevideo at 4:15 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Montevideo has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 368 points over their last five matches. As for Springfield, they will be playing at home against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
