Softball Game Preview: Essex Trojans vs. Colonial Beach Drifters

For the second straight game, Essex will face off against Colonial Beach. The Trojans will square off against the Drifters at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

While Essex's win against Colonial Beach wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Drifters 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 30, 2024.

Tai'Leah Cowles made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makiryn Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Kenedi Campbell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Colonial Beach is on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10. As for Essex, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-9-1.
