Marathon is 2-8 against Key West since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Marathon Dolphins' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Key West Conchs at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Marathon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday.
Marathon suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Monday. They took a serious blow against David Posnack Jewish Day, falling 73-45. While losing is never fun, Marathon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 710th, while David Posnack Jewish Day is ranked 271st).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was YANIEL GARCIA, who scored eight points along with five assists and five rebounds. ADRIAN CRUZ was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Key West had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 61-52 win over iMater Charter on Monday.
Key West found their leader in underclassman James Osborne, who scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Osborne has scored all season. Another player making a difference was DeMarcus Deroche, who scored 13 points.
Marathon has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Key West, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Marathon have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Key West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
