Central Cambria dropped down to 5-5 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Bellefonte Red Raiders by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Devils have suffered since May 8, 2025.
Rocco Barra was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-6 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Derek Mcconnell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-7 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Ben Howard also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Bellefonte, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
On Bellefonte's side, Carsen Henry got the start for Bellefonte and what a start it was: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance also gave Henry a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Evan Mattern, who got on base in six of his seven plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Braeden Fortney was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Central Cambria wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 12-2 defeat against Chestnut Ridge on the 13th. As for Bellefonte, they have also already played their next matchup, a 9-8 loss against Bald Eagle Area on the 13th.
