Baseball Recap: White Cloud Takes a Loss

White Cloud had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 5-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Grant Tigers by a score of 8-7. If the Indians were looking for revenge after losing 13-0 to the Tigers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brady Strait made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for White Cloud: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 3-7 otherwise. Andy Burke also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Grant, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

On Grant's side, Kohen Obenauf was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). Obenauf has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Rider, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Chesebro, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While White Cloud had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
