The Red Level Tigers struggled with assists on Thursday (the Straughn Tigers had 16 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Red Level took a serious blow against Straughn, falling 52-23. Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mariah Crowell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Crowell scored a full 56.5% of Red Level's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Red Level struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Straughn found their leader in underclassman Blakeley Smith, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Pittman, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Red Level's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Straughn, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.
Red Level will head out on the road to face off against Opp at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Opp comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Straughn won't have much time to rest: their next match is against McKenzie at 5:30 p.m. on December 8th. McKenzie will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 397th, while Straughn is ranked 108th).
