Basketball Recap: Omaha Westside Piles Up the Points Against Grand Island

Omaha Westside put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by the Grand Island Islanders to the tune of 71-42. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Islanders are ranked 163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Omaha Westside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyson Odvody, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds. With that strong performance, Odvody is now averaging an impressive 9 rebounds per game. Carson Healy was another key player, going 6 for 13 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.

Omaha Westside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Grand Island lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ethan Coslor, who posted 12 points. Those 12 points gave Coslor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Fisher Jr, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Omaha Westside's record now sits at 6-0. As for Grand Island, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Westside will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Omaha Northwest on January 7, 2025. Grand Island and Lincoln High will round out the year against one another at at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Grand Island is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.1 points per game this season.
