The Dearborn Pioneers will head out to take on the Inter-City Baptist Chargers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Dearborn not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 4th (when they won 12-2). They blew past Western International 17-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Pioneers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Calyssa Post made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Post was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had over her last nine matches.
In other batting news, Dearborn got a massive performance out of Madison Shoff, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs Shoff has posted since back in April. Sophia Ball also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Dearborn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Inter-City Baptist had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-3.
Brooke Anthony spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Chloe Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Sydney Christie, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Dearborn's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-17-2. As for Inter-City Baptist, their record is now 5-6.
Dearborn suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Inter-City Baptist in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
