The Madison-Grant Argylls will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Oak Hill Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Madison-Grant focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday.
Madison-Grant suffered their closest loss yet this season last Friday. They fell just short of Frankton by a score of 52-50. While losing is never fun, Madison-Grant can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 359th, while Frankton is ranked 154th).
Despite their defeat, Madison-Grant saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Teagan Yeagy, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Clayton Hull was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Madison-Grant struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. Everything went their way against Alexandria-Monroe as Oak Hill made off with a 71-45 win. That looming 71-45 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Oak Hill yet this season.
Oak Hill's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Trexler, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ty Fagan, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Madison-Grant has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Oak Hill, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-7.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Madison-Grant have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Oak Hill, though, as they've been averaging only 22.6 rebounds per game. Given Madison-Grant's sizeable advantage in that area, Oak Hill will need to find a way to close that gap.
Madison-Grant ended up a good deal behind Oak Hill in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, losing 65-46. Can Madison-Grant avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
