If the Arcadia Firebirds were feeling good off their 94-58 takedown of the Chincoteague Ponies last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Arcadia took a 89-73 bruising from Northampton on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Arcadia in their matchups with Northampton: they've now lost six in a row.
Arcadia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ryheim Pettit, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Jordan Cropper who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds. Cropper is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Lucy, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Arcadia struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Ronyell Coston, who scored 47 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Northampton. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Coston has scored all season. Quayshawn Washington was another key contributor, dropping a triple-double on 18 points, ten assists, and ten steals.
Arcadia has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Northampton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arcadia will take on Nandua at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northampton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chincoteague at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chincoteague will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while Northampton is ranked 154th).
