The Covenant School Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Trinity Christian Gryphons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, The Covenant School put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. They blew past Blue Ridge 15-2. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Barons: they've now won three in a row.
Gavin McGinn looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Henry Waldruff was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Noah Estes also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Trinity Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Fredericksburg Christian get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Gryphons, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Fisher made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Trinity Christian is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise. Fisher was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Philip Long and Cole Norman did most of the damage at the plate: Long went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Norman went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Long has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Isaac Norman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Trinity Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory got Trinity Christian back to even at 3-3. As for The Covenant School, the win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-3.
The Covenant School came out on top in a nail-biter against Trinity Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
