The Green Hope Falcons scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 62-43 win over Holly Springs. Given Green Hope's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Holly Springs is ranked 472nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Abigail Brown, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Green Hope's points. Mel Mydosh was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Several Golden Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nylah Collins, who scored 13 points along with seven assists. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Lissow, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Holly Springs were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Hope only racked up 19 assists.
Green Hope's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Holly Springs, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Green Hope will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Apex Friendship at 8:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Holly Springs, they will head out on the road to face off against Hoggard at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoggard will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
