The Liberty Red Devils pushed their score all the way to 64 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 86-64 defeat to Blacksburg might stick with them for a while. Liberty was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-21.
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Logan Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Dawson Owen was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals.
It was another big night for Jacob Gilfillan, who scored 26 points along with four steals for Blacksburg. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gilfillan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Saad Lavender, who scored 11 points.
Liberty dropped their record down to 9-17 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Blacksburg, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-15.
Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Blacksburg also has no future games currently scheduled.
