Sparta waltzed into their matchup on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Newaygo Lions a 13-0 shutout. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Sparta's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Newaygo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta will host Lowell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
