The third road matchup was the charm for the McClave Cardinals, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 52-42 win over Springfield on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as McClave also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
McClave's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tuff Kelley, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 20 rebounds, and ten blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Forgue, who scored 21 points.
Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colby Batterton, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Batterton hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Colin Swanson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
McClave's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Springfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
McClave will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] at 4:00 p.m. on January 25th. Springfield won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Primero at 2:00 p.m. on January 12th.
