The Malvern Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the East Canton Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Malvern is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Last Friday, Malvern got themselves on the board against Tuscarawas Central Catholic, but Tuscarawas Central Catholic never followed suit. They blew past the Saints 63-0 at home. Given Malvern's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 296th, while Tuscarawas Central Catholic is ranked 716th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jared Witherow was his usual excellent self, throwing for 92 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Rodney Smith also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Malvern's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. Leading the way was Chance Miller and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, East Canton was beaten by Buckeye Trail 45-14 on Friday.
Malvern's win lifted them to 8-1 while East Canton's defeat dropped them down to 2-7.
Malvern strolled past East Canton when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 28-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for Malvern since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
