The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds entered their tilt with the Nucla Mustangs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Sangre de Cristo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 win over Nucla on Saturday.
Presley Wilson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Nucla saw an underclassman step up: Lantry Galley almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shay Snyder, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Sangre de Cristo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Nucla, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
Sangre de Cristo will look to defend their home court on Monday against La Veta at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully La Veta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. Nucla will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Telluride at 4:00 p.m. on February 9th. Nucla is facing Telluride at the right time seeing as Telluride is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
