Last Thursday, SouthWest Edgecombe beat Northern Nash 50-40. Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Northern Nash is ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
SouthWest Edgecombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Moore Mackenzie, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds. The game was Mackenzie's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was K'Deidra (KD) Collins, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Southeast Halifax was the victim of a tough 46-22 loss at the hands of Warren County last Friday. Southeast Halifax has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
SouthWest Edgecombe pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Southeast Halifax, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Everything came up roses for SouthWest Edgecombe against Southeast Halifax when the teams last played back in December of 2019 as the team secured a 64-25 victory. With SouthWest Edgecombe ahead 33-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
