Central was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in Super Essex - Colonial. Earlier in the week, the Blue Devils defeated Glen Ridge 47-7.
Shabazz scaled the state rankings by moving to 87 from 120 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of beating Verona 20-9.
Joe Slattery threw for 285 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Paul Rufo was the best wideout in the league this week as Cedar Grove defeated Montclair Kimberley Academy. Rufo racked up 3 receptions for 149 yards. David Njoku helped Cedar Grove's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 136 yards.
The Panthers' Slattery and Rufo have formed a dream team this season, leading Super Essex - Colonial in both passing and receiving yards. Slattery has thrown for 755 yards this season, while Rufo, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 16 catches for 433 yards. Alkadair Ports from Weequahic leads the league in rushing with 216 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Cedar Grove's Rufo goes up against East Side's Hashim Thomas.
Next week's game between ed sadloch's team and the Red Raiders will feature a good passing match up as Slattery will test his arm against Thomas' defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Central takes on the Hillbillies. As it stands, Julius Montford's team is in fourth, while Verona is in sixth.
The Indians took down East Side 70-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kedar Clarke threw for 103 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 54 yards during the win.
