Basketball Recap: Douglas Piles Up the Points Against Florence

Douglas had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Florence Gophers 61-23. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 31 points or more this season.

Douglas had a senior duo take command as Scarlette Ruiz went 9 of 10 on her way to 21 points in addition to three steals and three blocks and Francia Rubio almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ruiz has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyra Espinosa, who posted six points and five steals.

Douglas pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.8 points per game. As for Florence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Douglas wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-24 win against Valley Union on the 13th. As for Florence, they and Benson will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Benson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.
