Baseball Recap: Island Coast's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Island Coast waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Riverview Sarasota Rams. That's two games straight that the Gators have won by just one run.

Hunter Fretwell looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jayven Torres and Logan Hawkins did most of the damage at the plate: Torres scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Hawkins scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Hawkins posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Grady Schwiezer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Island Coast was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Island Coast's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Riverview Sarasota, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Island Coast will welcome Evangelical Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Riverview Sarasota, they will host Inspiration Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
